American Football Coasters and Hot Pads
I used worsted weight yarn in Brown and White with an H Sized hook.
Coasters:
Ch 4. Connect to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (1st Dc here and throughout). Work 13 Dc into ring. Connect to beg ch.
Round 2: Ch 3. 1 Dc in same st. Work 2 Dc in next 3 sts. Yo, insert hook. Yo pull through, Yo and pull through. Drop Brown yarn. Leaving a 1 inch tail, (Work 1 Dc in next st using White Yarn. Pick up Brown yarn and work 1 Dc in same st.) 4 Times. With Brown yarn, Work 2 Dc into next 4 sts. 1 Dc in last st. Connect to beg ch.
Round 3: Ch 1. Sc in same st. 2 Sc in next st. 1 Sc & 1 Hdc in next st. 1 Hdc in next st. 1 Hdc and 1 Dc in next st. 1 Dc in next st. 1 Trc in next st. Ch 2 & sl st in 2nd ch from hk. Trc in same st. 1 Dc in next st. I Dc and 1 Hdc in next st. 1 Hdc in next st. 1 Hdc & 1 Sc in next st. (1 Sc in next st. 2 Sc in next st) 2 times. 1 Sc & 1 Hdc in next st. 1 Hdc in next st. 1 Hdc & 1 Dc in next st. 1 Dc in next st. Trc in next st. Ch 2, & sl st in 2nd ch from hk. Trc in same st. 1 Dc in next st. 1 Dc & 1 Hdc in next st. 1 Hdc in next st. 1 Hdc and 1 Sc in next st. (1 Sc in next st. 2 Sc in next st) as needed to end this round. Connect to beg ch and end off. Weave threads.
Hotpad Instructions:
After fussing over this for too long.... I decided to keep it simple.
For the sample I used the same instructions as the Coaster, but used 2 strands of worsted weight yarn, and a J sized hook. This made a small hot pad 6.5 inches long and 5 inches wide.
You could use 3 strands of yarn and a K sized hook to make the hot pad larger.
