Summer Sun Motifs

Ol' Sol Coasters (Sunshine Coasters)
Using worsted weight yarn in yellow, gold, or even orange with an H hook.

Ch 5 Connect to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (serves as 1st Dc here and throughout). Work 15 Dc into ring.  Connect to beg ch.
Round  2: Ch 3. Work 2 Dc into each st around circle. (32 Sts total.)
Round 3: Ch 1. Sc into same st. *Sk 1 st. {3 Hdc,1 Dc, 3 Hdc} all in next st. Sk 1 st. Sc into next st. Repeat from * around circle. (8 sunpoints) connect to beg ch. End off and weave threads.

NOTE:
When skipping stitches, be certain to check UNDER the last Hdc in a point!  With 7 stitches in one, they will overlap and hide a foundation stitch on the left hand side of the point.

Ol Sol Fridgie/Lapel Pin
I used 2 strands of #10 cotton, and an 0 hook, but you can use any size Thread you prefer, with an appropriate hook.
Use the same instructions as the Coaster.
When finished, you can glue black sequins or wiggle eyes, plus black braid to create a face on the Sun.

Ol' Sol Hot Pad (Sunshine Hot Pad)
Using worsted weight yarn in yellow, gold, or even orange with an H hook.

Decrease Dc: Yo, insert hook into st. Yo, pull through, Yo, pull through two loops. Yo, insert hook into next st. Yo, pull through, Yo, pull through two loops. Yo pull through all remaining loops.

Ch 5 Connect to form ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (serves as 1st Dc here and throughout). Work 15 Dc into ring.  Connect to beg ch.
Round 2: Ch 3. Work 2 Dc into each st around circle. (32 Sts total.)
Round 3: Ch 3. Dc in same st. *1 Dc in next 2 sts. 2 Dc in next st. Repeat round circle 8 more times. 1 Dc in next two sts. 1 Dec. Dc in last st. Connect to beg ch. End off.
Make 2 of these, BUT DON'T END OFF ON THE SECOND CIRCLE!
Place wrong sides together. (From here, you will be crocheting the 1 circles together as you create the 'sunburst' edging. Make certain that you insert hk through both circles as you form each stitch.)
Ch 1 (starting Round 4 of 2nd circle.) Sc in same st. *Sk 1 st. {3 Hdc,1 Dc, 3 Hdc} all in next st. Sk 1 st. Sc into next st. Repeat from * around circle. (10 sunpoints) connect to beg ch. End off and weave threads.
You can glue black sequins or wiggle eyes, plus black braid to create a face on the Sun.

NOTE:
When skipping stitches, be certain to check UNDER the last Hdc in a point!  With 7 stitches in one, they will overlap and hide a foundation stitch on the left hand side of the point.
