This is the Newsletter I wrote after 911

September 14, 2001

Greetings from the
Chez Crochet Gazette,

With this week’s tragedies on the East Coast of the US, I debated for hours on what to do with this newsletter.  I wrote & discarded three different versions.
In the end, I came to this: One Granny Square does not an Afghan make; the USA is but one Granny Square in the Afghan known as Earth.  As a WORLD we must come together in Unity and stand shoulder to shoulder against this enemy who truly does threaten us all.  We must be the joined squares of an Afghan blocking out the cold of Hatred and Inhumanity.
My tiny contribution to this disaster is a plea for Unity, and to those ends, I offer four patterns that are the Religious Symbols for different beliefs around the world.  I believe that the Inner Core beliefs of all major religions are respect, harmony and love.  With those threads to bind us together, I hope that we can overcome the differences that prevent us from acting as one against these despicable acts, and those who have such wanton disregard for human life.
May God bless us with his comfort to ease our pain, with strength to face the days to come, with patience and perseverance to finish what we start, and the wisdom to know the best course of action.
